What type of car speakers would you recommend?

Colin asked:

Right now I have 2 12 Inch subs in the trunk so the lows are covered. I want to swap out the front speakers for something that will have a natural, clean sound. I have an Alpine CDA-9884 head unit, soon to get the alpine power pack. Right now I have stock all around, speaker size is 6×9.

    Get another Alpine.

Alpine or Premier 6×9′s are pretty crisp in sound.

The kind that can blast rap music at a traffic light loud enough to make the surrounding cars vibrate.

I would go with JL Audio, but if you are using the head unit to power the speakers, you won’t notice much difference between any.

    They are bad investments.
Why are you wasting hard earned money on such stupid toys that won’t be their in the future?
Invest that money into something more valuable, something that you need.
I won’t blame anyone else, except for you if you speakers end up getting stolen, and your car windows broken.

the kind that make sound loud and look cool

I recommend car speakers that were made during the golden age of car audio. Roughly from 1987-mid ’90s. Everything made now is junk ’cause it’s made in china, taiwan, malaysia, etc.. Even the once high end brands like Phoenix Gold, MB Quart, Alpine, Kicker, etc have sold out to cheap asian mass production. That goes for home audio too. If you want great quality, get on ebay and look for old school MB Quart QM series, Boston Acoustics Pro, Focal, KEF Uni-Q, Dynaudio, ADS, or even Alpine. Also anything other than a round shape driver is not putting quality as a priority so if you truly want clean and natural sound ditch the 6x9s. Yeah you might pay more for these even if they are 20 years old but you will not complain and it will blow your friends cheap *** made in china crap away. As far as amps are concerned, get a real made in U.S.A. amp. Or at least made in Japan. Again, old school.
