Uploading sound to MacBook?

Any advice on how to upload sound from MiniDisc Recorder on to Mac? Have got as far as connecting to digital audio in port, but nothing seems to be happening. Also, is it better to use GarageBand application to play with sound, or can I run it through iMovie?

You have to use software to import the audio in real time. GarageBand would be the better application to use.
