Trying to hook equalizer up to turntables?
karka asked:
Well I found this old Pioneer SG-90 equalizer at a thrift store and I was trying to hook it up to my turntables, with no luck. The thing is, the equalizer is meant to be used with tapes. I figured I’d try hooking it up since it was only 6$ but i haven’t had any luck so far. I can get music to play through the equalizer to the speaker I have, but none of the buttons/switches seem to do anything.

Should I just toss this thing or am I doing something wrong?

It’s possible that the previous owner destroyed the audio input circuit of the equalizer. Or the input omitted from the record player may be to low for the Eq. Here’s an explanation. The connection between devices is called “Line Level”. Which is a very low level output. It’s possible it could be to low for the Equalizer to hear it. Usually devices which have a headphone jack have a higher level output. For example (These numbers may vary) An Ipod may have an output (before distortion) of about 1 – 1.5 milliwatts. I would assume the turn table produces approximately .005-.010 Milliwatts. Try using a different device with a higher output and see how that changes the sound. Also knowing about the other equipment you have in operation would help.
