You will need to purchase a outdoor antenna that is can receive HD broadcasting. A indoor HD antenna is considered very weak and the picture quality can be fuzzy.
It depends on your TV. Some TV’s have two “f-type” connectors. One may be labelled “cable” and the other “antenna”.
It sounds like your TV has just one “f-type” connector. If so, you’ll need to connect the antenna to this connector and from the TV’s menu system, change the input setting from “Cable” to “Antenna”. You will need to rescan the channels.
The poster above is semi-correct that an outdoor antenna is better than the indoor ones, but depending on how close you are to the broadcasting towers, you may get a great signal with an indoor antenna.
Go to antennaweb.org and play around on that site. You’ll be able to figure out where the towers are, so you can point your antenna in that direction.

NO for the same CABLE…
On the back of your TV set, you have 2 Antenna connectors, ONE for CABLE and ONE for UHF Antenna….
You need a tabletop antenna or better yet an 8 Bay Bowtie antenna to recieve HD signals from your local TV stations….
And your TV MUST HAVE AN ATSC TUNER or a DIGITAL TUNER …..not the old time NTSC tuner….
Once you get this 2nd antenna connected to the UHF connector, then you go into your menu and Autoprogram it again….if it asks you whether you want to do Cable or Digital Tuning you answer >>BOTH
