How do I know the ratio of my guitar tuners?

Robb asked:

I need to change the tuning pegs on my guitar (they are Grovers). I’ve been looking online and I see they have different ratios (18:1, 19:1, 14:1 etc..) Is this in relation to the hole in the headstock or the instrument itself? I’m clueless about this

The ratio has to do with turns of the knob to turns of the tuning peg. In general, the higher the ratio the better the tuner since it gives you finer control. Grovers come either 14:1 or 18:1 so you need to try one of your tuners to see which one you have. But you can replace 14:1 tuners with 18:1 if you choose to do so.
