Can I hook up an MP3 player to my car stereo thru the cassette deck?

carmella asked:

I have an old car. It only has a tape deck for playing music. At the moment, I have a discman which I connect to one of those cassette adapters and the discman plays thru the tape deck. If I buy an MP3 player and plug the cassette adapter into the earphone jack of the MP3 player, can I play the MP3 player thru the cassette deck in my car?

you sure can. I do it in my old car. If you’ve setup playlists, it’s not too bad. But trying to find songs on your mp3 player while you’re driving *****.

When you do it, you may have to crank up the volume on the mp3 player so that you get decent volume response from the stereo’s volume knob. If you leave the mp3 player volume too low, you’ll get a lot of “hissing” sound as you turn the volume knob.

There are lots of accessories for the iPod that do exactly that.
