The Wedding Day Is A Lot Of Couples' Main Focus, But The Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Can Be Special, Too

There are numerous arrangements, expenses and anxieties that go along with planning a wedding day. If couples aren't mindful they can get so consumed with planning the event and endeavoring to get all the details right that there's little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was planning her wedding ceremony she had three bridal showers to attend, reception plans to finalize and was endeavoring to find a location for the rehearsal dinner. The third shower was given at my house. I'm her godmother so I had wanted to do something special for her. Several days before the bridal shower we talked on the telephone. She sounded very stressed. She and her fiance were also having problems finding the best wedding songs for the nuptials. I recommended that she come the night before the shower and stay overnight and we would kick back and I would help her make a list of what needed to be done prior to the wedding ceremony. She thought this sounded like a wonderful plan.

I did the vast majority of the preparations for the shower prior to my niece coming so that we could concentrate on her to do list. She said that the rehearsal dinner was her greatest stress because the spot they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to find a new location. We started by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding ceremony so we could get one stress out of the way thereby giving a good feeling that the other would be handled as well. As I imagined finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the internet, listening to samples, ordering what was selected and that was that. Now to tackle the rehearsal dinner.

The rehearsal dinner is traditionally done by the groom's family; the truth is some people refer to the event as the groom's dinner. My niece's fiance is from another state so his family is prepared to pay for the rehearsal dinner, but they're not able to help with making the arrangements. My niece had contacted the restaurant where the wedding reception will be located, but the only available space was the area where the wedding reception would be held. My niece stated that the plan was to decorate the wedding reception area prior to going to the church for the rehearsal.

We called two neighboring restaurants to see if they could accommodate the rehearsal dinner. Both had other events planned. Her fiance's mother and father are divorced, also both have remarried. This meant that there were extra people that would be at the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her anxiety because she was trying to figure out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart arranged for the wedding day, but not knowing the place the rehearsal dinner would be held limited her opportunity to arrange a chart.

I asked my niece if she had called the church to see if the fellowship area would be available. Everyone could just circulate and have a light catered meal. This would be much less formal and would be relatively easy to plan. The fellowship area was available that date. We called two delis and ordered catering. My niece called her fiance and told him the new plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded fantastic. He would make arrangements to have a friend of his tend bar and would set up for the drinks.

The rehearsal dinner was a pleasant relaxed evening. The guests were able to visit and mingle and the bride and groom did not feel the need to sit in one spot while everyone ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the atmosphere was very casual and the out of town guests did not have to try and find another location in an area that they weren't familiar with.
