It is just that weddings differ significantly from family to family and society to society. In some families, it's almost an obligation to get drunk at the wedding. If you are not seen to be truly enjoying yourself, consuming copious amounts of booze and food, you're insulting your hosts and their family wedding traditions. In other families, a conventional wedding means a fairly sober and somber event. People have fun, but the most important purpose of the wedding is to mark a life-long commitment.

That is why such a great number of people today decide to make-up their own wedding traditions. They write their own wedding vows, arrange their own wedding ceremonies, and come up with novel, unconventional concepts for the party. As a matter of fact, for such an universal custom, it's unbelievable how many variations you can get away with in weddings!

My favorite wedding tradition is something that started with my grandma.
